Inlay and Onlay Restoration

İnley ve Onley Restorasyon

What is Inlay and Onlay Restoration?

It is a method applied between the veneer and filling according to the condition of the tooth. Inlays and onlays are used for the teeth which do not have enough tooth structure to support the filling and is suitable for crown veneer. It has been developed for inadequate composite and amalgam fillings. In terms of esthetics, it is the most preferred porcelain filling method.

What is Inlay and Onley?

Inlay and onlay fillings are the first choice that comes to mind when it comes to esthetic tooth fillings. The differences between Inley and Onley are as follows;

Inlay filling: It is applied between chewing and tubercle protrusions on the surface of the teeth.

Onley filling: Application area is wider than inlay. It is applied on one or more tubercles.

In which cases Inlay and Onlay Fillers are applied?

If more than half of the tooth surface is lost, for example in cases of caries and physical traumas, standard amalgam or composite fillings are not successful and long-lasting. If crown veneers are applied to such teeth, the natural structure of the teeth is disrupted unnecessarily. In such cases, the best solution would be inlay-onlay.

How is the procedure of Inlay and Onlay operations?

After the damaged tooth area is cleaned from caries, the tooth size is measured. In addition to the measurements, filler or crown veneer is prepared in the laboratory environment with sensitive bit technology. After the filling is prepared, it is placed in the tooth with the bonding technique. The latest precision restoration procedures are performed as prescribed by the dentist.

What are the advantages of Inlay and Onlay?

  • It is aesthetically advantageous over other fillers and does not change the color of the teeth over time.
  • Since the material is porcelain, it reflects the light very well and when compared with the naked eye it is no different from natural tooth.
  • No unnecessary teeth are cut
  • As with lumineer veneers, tooth tissue is optimally preserved.
  • No risk of allergic reactions.
  • Very durable and strong against pressure.
  • Over time, such conditions as fractures are not observed.
  • It is completed in maximum 2 sessions.

It does not require any special care which is different from normal oral and teeth care. With regular brushing, flossing and regular visits to the dentist, you can use the porcelain filling in a healthy way for a long time.

It depends on the material used in the filling, oral hygiene of the patient and the application skills of the dentist. It also varies according to the pressure and chewing force on the tooth.
