Introduction
To take control your bleeding, hold the sterile tampon placed in the drafting area firmly for at least 35-40 minutes. After disposing of this tampon, check whether your bleeding continues before you put the second; If blood comes to your mouth in the form of leakage, you can hold a second tampon by pressing it firmly in the mouth for 35-40 minutes.
If you do not have a level of bleeding that is uncomfortable, we recommend swallowing your light pink saliva instead of putting the second tampon. Since the clot will stick to the tampon each time you change it, it won’t stick to the extracted zone and won’t stop your bleeding.
Care After Dental Surgery
It is normal for you to have a slight bleeding for 6-24 hours after extraction. Rinsing the mouth with water or spitting to control the bleeding will cause an increase in your bleeding as it will remove the clot formed in the area. Don’t panic because you think your blood is too much due to the saliva stained red because of the blood. If you have a mouthful of bleeding, call your doctor.
Do not eat or drink for 2 hours after extraction. Also, avoid cold, very hot and rough foods, acidic drinks such as cola and alcohol within 24 hours after extraction. In the following days, you can cautiously continue to your daily foods
NEVER SMOKE for 24 hours. Smoking causes inflammation in the wound area. Try to smoke as little as possible within the next 72 hours.
There may be pain in the wound following extraction. The severity of the pain may be slightly higher in surgical extractions. 2 hours after the extraction, a painkiller will relax your pain, except for aspirin (aspirin increases the bleeding because it dilutes the blood) before the anesthesia is fully got out of your system..
Healing of the wound occurs when the remaining space after tooth extraction is filled with blood and clots there. This will temporarily close that space. This clot is then organized into oral tissues and the wound is completely healed. It takes at least 1 week for the wound to heal and 6 months for complete ossification of the cavity. Therefore, rinsing the mouth and spitting frequently or tampering with the wound area with any object or tongue disrupts healing as it removes the clot from the wound.
You can continue to your daily oral care after 24 hours of tooth extraction. You can also use saline (a teaspoon of salt in a cup of lukewarm water) or mouthwashes to avoid a secondary infection by keeping the wound area clean.
If there is a severe pain, bad taste or smell after 48-72 hours in the extraction cavity, call your doctor immediately. You may have an inflammation called “alveolitis” due to poor oral hygiene and smoking after the extraction.
Holding ice for 5 minutes and pulling for 10 minutes within 8 hours, applying ice to the outside of your cheek prevents swelling, bruising and pain. It is recommended to apply ice especially after surgical extractions. When applying ice, it is necessary to put the ice in a bag and wrap it in a thin towel or napkin. If not, this may cause “ice burns” on your skin.
If possible, do not lie down immediately after tooth extraction. If you feel the need to lie, put a high pillow under your head so that your head stays above the heart line.
Swelling is normal in surgical extractions. If there are stitches, they should be removed within 7 to 10 days. When the stitches are in the mouth, be careful not to take your tongue to that area and play with the stitches.
Use the medicines given to you for the specified period and at the specified times.
Avoid heavy exercise for a week and do not stay in the sun for long.
